After a meeting between Richard Brady and Kathleen Kelleher a motion was brought forth to Greystones town council about the dire state of our sewerage system and the fact that every time it rains heavily it causes problems for local buinnesses and homes. After which Richard recived this reply
The southern half of the Kilpedder sewerage system drains to a pumping station adjacent to Fowlers garage.During periods of heavy rainfall it appears that a lot of surface water run off is getting into the foul system. There also appears to be a large amount of stones getting into the foul line at some location as on occasion the foul pump sump fills with stones. These stones along with the large volume of flow during storm periods can cause the foul pumps to be overloaded and trip out. There is an overflow from the foul sump to the adjacent surface water just for such occasions.During the heavy rainfall on the 25th of October I visited Kilpedder with the sewerage caretaker and the foul pumps had indeed tripped out due to being blocked, however, the overflow chamber on the surface water line was also full thereby creating a dead end on the foul line which backs up along the system and overflows at the manholes with lower cover levels.
It would appear that there is a blockage of some description on the surface water line preventing the overflow system to work adequately. It would also seem that there are stones getting into the foul sewer by some means. We will arrange to have the surface line jetted clear and also investigate where the stones and surface water are infiltrating into the foul sewer.
